Week One.. Done! Celebrate with Virtual Events This Weekend

You did it! Despite all of the uncertainties of a new semester, you showed up, did your work, and made it through Week One. What's more, you did it while treating each other with kindness and respect. Now, take some time to relax and recharge. We've rounded up three can't-miss events that you can enjoy from the comfort of your couch.

1. Ohioana Book Festival  (Fri - Sun)

"Since its inception in 2007, the Ohioana Book Festival has given readers the opportunity to connect with their favorite Ohio writers. Held each spring, the Festival welcomes roughly 140 authors and more than 3,000 visitors every year. The 2020 Book Festival will be held virtually from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2020. It is a FREE event open to the public, no registration required."

2. Columbus Black International Film Festival  (Fri & Sat)

"The primary objective of the Columbus Black International Film Festival is to showcase Black filmmakers locally, nationally and internationally, while highlighting a spectrum of stories told by people of the African diaspora."

CBIFF has also partnered with the Wexner Art Center to provide a FREE showing of Yvonne Welbon's Living with Pride: Ruth Ellis @ 100. After the screening, there will be a Q&A with the director, moderated by CBIFF founder Cristyn Steward and Film/Video Studip Curator Jennifer Lange.

3. Urban Scrawl's Virtual Scrawl (Sat)

"The Franklinton Arts District (FAD) is excited to announce that, in order to keep our artists, vendors, and spectators safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's Urban Scrawl festival will take place online as "Virtual Scrawl" from Noon to 10:00 pm on Saturday, August 29!

In any other year, Urban Scrawl would be a two-day charity mural festival held in front of thousands of spectators at 400 West Rich Street in the Franklinton Arts District. Unfortunately, 2020 had other plans... so this year, we're going virtual!"
